Autumn in Sullivan

Chamber on the Run tm

 TM

Vision:

In order to remain relevant in these changing economic, technological, and environmental times the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce is creating the world’s first initiative inspired completely mobile chamber of commerce.

The Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce has purchased a 37’ Coachman RV from a private seller in South Carolina. A video blog of the journey is on the Chamber’s facebook page.

The RV will become the Chamber’s sole office location beginning September 1st of this year and will move throughout the County servicing each township for a minimum of two-weeks at a time while appearing at many County events and festivities. We will be posting our weekly location and hourly schedule on the homepage of the Chamber website to ensure our community businesses know where we are. In addition to all of our current membership benefits, events, and services, the Mobile Chamber will allow us to better serve the needs of our local businesses, especially those who find it difficult to travel to our Monticello office during regular office hours. Not only will the Chamber be able to increase accessibility to our members, we will experience a significant savings in our expenses. This savings will enable the Chamber to continue to provide valuable services to our members while keeping its membership, sponsorship, and attendance fees low.

The RV currently runs on diesel fuel but we plan to run our electricity off mounted solar panels and a small wind turbine as a backup. If there is a need for additional electricity, we will have the capability to plug into a generator or any electrical service for an additional supply of electricity. The office will also utilize laptops and cell phones allowing the Chamber staff to move from town to town and business to business at ease.

In an effort to continue our green efforts, save space, storage, and the environment the Chamber is starting the process of going paperless. All communication to and from the Chamber will either be electronic or face-to-face, as the Chamber staff will be spending a significant amount of time visiting businesses in each township.

The Chamber is hopeful that these efforts will set an example for other businesses that may benefit from similar “Green” efforts or even going mobile.
